2012 Ford Focus Electric Test Drive & EV Car Video Review, http://www.autobytel.com/ford/focus-electric/2012/ The 2012 Ford Focus Electric is not your ordinary electric vehicle. The Nissan Leaf looks like a funky futuristic Versa. The Ford Focus EV is meant to look like the regular Focus. Those looking to buy the Focus are only interested in the fact that this electric vehicle will never use a drop of gas. Ford is slowly rolling out the Focus Electric and only a limited run of cars will be available at Certified EV dealers for the 2012 model year. The Focus EV has a base price of $39,200 but you may be eligible for a $7500 Federal Tax Credit. There may also be rebates at the state level.
The 2012 Ford Focus is powered by a 143 horsepower electric motor. This power plant is also responsible for producing over 230 lb-ft. of torque which is immediately available at 0 RPM. The single speed transmission along with the nice amount of torque helps the Focus Electric accelerate at a brisk pace. The battery pack responsible for the electricity is a 23kWh lithium-ion unit that is placed at the back of the car. A single charge will get you 76 miles of gas and emission free driving. Of course that figure varies depending on your driving style. With a 240-volt home charging system, the 2012 Ford Focus EV only takes 4 hours to fully recharge. There is a regenerative braking system on the Focus Electric which used energy from the brakes to recharge the battery.
On the outside the 2012 Ford Focus Electric follows the new design direction called Kinetic. The regular base model Focus hatchback is an already good looking new car. But Ford takes things one step further with the Focus EV. This vehicle sports sporty headlights, a large front grille, and an integrated front lip spoiler. The 17-inch aluminum rims are not only lightweight but look really cool too. The interior looks like a normal Focus layout wise. There is a hump behind the rear seats which holds the lithium-ion batteries that does hinder cargo room. The interior materials are made with the eco-conscious consumer in mind and thus the cloth seat fabric is made completely from recycled materials. The 2012 Ford Focus Electric can seat up to 5 passengers. A Sony 9-speaker sound system provides quality music. Maybe the best interior feature is the dual LCD screens that act as the gauges. These 4-inch screens can be configured to show different data points like: battery charge, distance to empty, regenerative brake coach, and more.
