2017 Ford Fiesta RS Concept First Release Reviews Redesign & Overviews, 2017 Ford Fiesta RS Concept First Release Reviews Redesign & Overviews : What It Is: On the heels of the freshly unveiled new Ford Focus RS and the welcome confirmation that it will be coming to the U.S., here’s our rendered take on the car that should be following it. Much as we love the Fiesta ST—and we do love it quite a lot, having awarded it a 10Best Cars trophy—there’s no doubt that there’s room above it to create a standout version. And with Ford’s confirmation at the Focus unveiling that RS is seen within the company as a long-term sub-brand and not just a badge for limited-edition models, you have to agree that this makes sense. Plus, just think how adorably cute a production version would be.

Why It Matters: The Fiesta ST has vindicated Ford’s decision to bring a subcompact hot hatch to the U.S. Over here, barring the challenge from the angry little Fiat 500 Abarth and the far more Gucci Mini Cooper S, it has the small-but-fast market pretty much to itself. But back in Europe, the ST competes against some very serious competition, much of which—like the Audi S1 and the forthcoming Volkswagen Polo R—outguns it on power and drives all four wheels. Although we’re not convinced the Fiesta RS would be (or would need to be) four-wheel drive, we can certainly see a compelling role for a faster Fiesta to help Ford stay on terms with the competition.

Platform: We suspect the existing Fiesta platform would take well to the RS treatment given how much we love the ST. Ford executives have told us the Focus RS has to deliver “different league” performance from the ST version, which would doubtless apply to any Fiesta RS, as well. Anticipate a widened track, a comprehensively reworked suspension, a limited-slip differential, and likely some fairly aggressive weight-saving measures, too. more : caranddriver
